Our New Addition

I should really say it's Kenzie's new addition. Our kids have been wanting a pet SO bad since our dog died 2 years ago and well we just haven't really been ready for another one yet. Our options are kind of limited since we share a back yard with Jackson's sister (which we LOVE) but their kids are allergic to a lot of things so that ruled out another dog for us (which really, I'm not too sad about not having to pick-up more dog poo) and we just don't like cats. They have been coming up with some pretty creative ideas on what kinds of pets we could have and most of them have gotten turned down (If I'm going to have a pet inside there has to be some limits like no snakes, lizards, turtles, guinea pigs, etc. for me. Come on now we all know who really is going to end up taking care of the pet). Anyway, Kenzie has to do a report on an animal for her school class during Spring Break and she decides to do one on the pet that she wants (can't give it away yet). Now I'm not the kind of mom that just runs down to the store right away to get my child a pet just because. We have actually talked about this for a while and the responsibilities of taking care of it. Well today my kids decided to get their piggy banks out to count all the money in there. I of course love to count their money with them because I think it's a great way to teach them simple math skills, but anyway they count all of their money and kenzie said "mom, do you think I have enough money for a pet --------"? Well how can you resist a sweet Innocent child wanting to spend all her money she's saved up to buy a pet??? I got the bright idea of "okay let's just go to PETCO and look at this pet and see how much it will actually cost and maybe you could come back with Dad and we'll go in on half of it with you (it's also Spring Break and we needed to get out of the house for a little adventure and my kids LOVE to go look at the pet store). We end up going to PETCO and realizing it's not all that much to get this pet and so I did a little calling to check with dad to make sure it was okay and so, with some rules for Kenzie and this pet, we came to an agreement that she could buy it. So instead of just looking we ended up going home with our BRAND NEW PET............

PARAKEET OSCKAR
(that's how kenzie said she wanted to spell it, HA too funny)

She's so excited to teach her little Parakeet all sorts of tricks and I must say it's pretty cute (at least for now, it's only been 8 hours ;-P )

How fun!! I bet Kenzie is the happiest person alive. I'll have to call and talk to her about that one!! Good choice Kenzie! A bird isn't all that bad, you wouldn't think. :)

She is pretty happy. All she ever wants to do is show off her Parakeet. I'm happy she loves it and is going to take good care of it.

How fun! Does the bird keep you up all night? My kids are dying for a pet as well but i just can't commit to anything yet.

Congratulations! It's so funny because my children are the same way about pets. They have wanted one for so long! Sometimes if they find a worm in the yard they'll try to adopt it as their pet. That is, until they kill it. Anyway--congratulations! You'll have to let us know how it goes. A pet bird might be something that I could handle. ~Janet
